Longford anti-animal cruelty activist claims no place in Ireland anymore for greyhound racing

A local anti-animal cruelty activist has said there is no place in modern Ireland for greyhound racing.

Nuala Donlon was commenting after news broke in recent days that Longford Greyhound Stadium is to close at the end of this month.

The Lanesboro woman, who is spokesperson for Greyhound Action Ireland, said that animal practices that were acceptable in the past are no longer allowed or popular particularly with younger people.


Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show she added that she didn’t believe anyone rejoiced in seeing somebody losing their job.

But she said that times and practices have changed and that the numbers attending greyhound meetings in on the wane particularly following a recent television expose on alleged cruelty in the industry:
