Pubs in the Shannonside region will open today for the first time in 6 months.

So called 'wet pubs' are one of the final businesses to reopen after lockdown but robust protective measures must be put in place.

These include limited numbers, physical distancing, table service only and strict cleaning regimes.

Pubs in Dublin will remain closed for at least the next three weeks with the capital under Level 3 restrictions with extra measures.

Niamh Begley from Begley's in Killoe in Longford says she's excited at the thoughts of welcoming some of her local customers back to the pub tonight.

Niamh says it's been a lonely six months for both the pub and its customers, and everyone will have to work together now to make sure they can stay open.

She says some of the older clients have already been very responsible in calling to reserve their tables or stools…
