Local hospital patients facing disruption as a result of health support workers strike

Hospital Patients in the Shannonside region can expect major disruption at local facilities today as a result of a strike by health support staff at several facilities in the region.

10-thousand staff including cleaners, porters and chefs are walking off the job for 24 hours today in a SIPTU row over job evaluations.

More strikes are planned next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday if there’s no resolution.


38 hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide will have reduced services today.

The HSE insists emergency departments are still open despite a strike by health support staff – which has just got underway.

The Saolta group has confirmed that at Roscommon University Hospital, the Injury Unit will remain open
