Lanesboro can lead the way as a “carbon-neutral community” according to the Irish Energy Storage Association.

The announcement to shut Lough Ree power station came in November 2019, which will cause the loss of about one hundred and fifty jobs when the station closes for good in December this year.

However, IESA president Peter Duffy has said there’s now a great opportunity to keep power-based jobs in the region in a sustainable way through renewable technologies such as solar and wind farms, as well as data centres and potential biomass research projects.
