INMO calls on HSE for faster action to avoid crises at Tullamore hospital

The HSE has been urged to act more quickly to avoid crisis situations developing at the emergency department at Tullamore Hospital.

The call comes after management was forced to activate its’ escalation protocol yesterday due to overcrowding leading to the cancellation of elective surgery for two days.

According to the INMO there were 42 patients waiting on a bed in the hospital on Monday which the organisation claims is a huge number for the facility making the ED unsafe.

The INMO’s Industrial Relations Officer, Albert Murphy, says this weeks events has to be a wake-up call for the HSE.
