HSE hoping to expedite filling of GP vacancy in Ballymahon

The HSE has confirmed that it is looking to fill the vacancy for a GP in Ballymahon as soon as possible.

Dr Laura Noonan recently informed the HSE of her decision to close the practice in the south Longford area, as well as the satellite service in Ballymore.

Dr Noonan, who is battling serious illness, took over the practice in August 2016.

Locals in the town had expressed concern that the area could be left permanently without a GP practice, especially in light of the opening of Center Parcs and a significant increase in the number of people living and staying in the town.

Advertisements by the HSE to fill the role have recently been placed, and in a statement to Shannonside FM they claim that their priority to the local area is to ensure that there is a GP available to the population of the south Longford area.
