The first fundraising drive for a new hospice centre for the Midlands is being launched this week.
Currently there is no dedicated level three hospice across counties Longford, Offaly, Laois or Westmeath.
The Lions Club in Tullamore has developed plans for a 16 bedded level three hospice on a site being provided by the HSE on the grounds of the Regional Hospital in Tullamore.
It will provide a full range of services including end of life care as well as respite and day care.
The fundraiser, Hooves4Hospice is asking farmers to rear an animal for 12 to 18 months after which it will be sold by the Lions Club with all proceeds going towards the building.
The event is being launched tomorrow night in the Greville Arms hotel in Mullingar at 7:30pm tomorrow night.
Liam Fleming is President of the Tullamore Lions Club.
