Gardai in Longford are investigating after a young horse was stabbed to death at a horse sanctuary earlier this week.
The foal, which was under a year old, was being housed at the Hungry Horse Outside stables on the N4 when it was killed on Wednesday night.
The animal is being sent to Athlone today for further tests to determine the exact cause of death but it believed to have been stabbed in the neck.
A Garda investigation into the incident is currently underway.
Hillary Robinson from Hungry Horse Outside has issued an appeal for information on the incident and is asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in and around the Minard House area of the N4 on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning to contact local Gardai.
