Granard mart manager hopes to arrange remote livestock sales

Marts across the Shannonside Northern Sound region are hoping that they will be able to facilitate some level of sales in the coming days.

Facilities at marts across the country were ordered to close from today as tougher physical distancing regulations.

Meetings have been taking place between the Department of Agriculture, the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society and Mart Managers of Ireland to work on solutions to maintain the buying and selling of livestock.

Granard mart was due to have a sale today, Manager Charlotte Kearney says they are trying to work out a way of making sure sales can take place albeit remotely.
