A plan is in place in Granard to honor Brendan O’ Reilly.
There has been criticism from the community in Mulranny in Mayo who are unveiling a plaque to the high jump champion tomorrow afternoon.
They say that they are honouring him where his native town has failed.
Brendan, who died in 2001, was selected for the Olympic Games, he was also a sports commentator, a singer/songwriter, actor and poet.
He died in 2001.
Granard Councillor PJ Reilly says they are in the process of recognising Brendan together with Eddie Macken and Larry Cunningham who are also worthy of recognition.
He says they have been working with the Arts Office in the local authority to get funding streams to commission a sculpture for each of the men.
