GE20: The candidates declared for Longford-Westmeath so far

Candidates across the Shannonside region are finalsiing their materials ahead of polling day in just over three weeks.

The final list of all those running will not be known until the next week, with prospective candidates having seven days to file their papers with the local returning officer from the time the Clerk of the Dail, issues the writ.

Three of the four sitting TDs are returning to the campaign trail, with Labour’s Willie Penrose standing down this time around.

Ballynacarrigy’s Robert Troy will be joined by Lanesboro native and Longford County Councillor Joe Flaherty.

For Fine Gael, current Cathaoirleach Ballinalee’s Micheal Carrigy will also have his first run at a national campaign, alongside, Mullingar’s Peter Burke and Athlone Senator Gabrielle McFadden.

Alan Mangan from Castletown-Geoghegan replaces Willie Penrose for Labour and Mullingar’s based Sorcha Clarke carrying the local campaign for Sinn Fein.

For the Green’s, it’s Mount Temple native Councillor Louise Heavin hoping to capitalise on the green tide.

Ballinalee’s James Reynolds is running for The National Party.

And like many other constituencies there’s a strong showing of Independents.

Sitting TD from Athlone Kevin Boxer Moran is hoping to retain his seat with Ballinalee’s Frank Kilbride and Newtownforbes’ Tony Reilly, as well as Athlone’s Donal Jackson, are all hoping to make it to the 33rd Dail as solo candidates.

Legan native Anna Kavanagh is also running as part of the Alliance of Birth Mothers campaigning for Justice group.
