An agreement has been reached that will see a gas pipeline, which currently runs from Athlone to the Center Parcs Longford Forest resort, extended through Ballymahon town.
Talks had been underway for the last number of months between Longford County Council, Gas Networks Ireland as well as the Government, to bring the pipeline spur through the town.
It was previously suggested that the only way that the pipeline could be extended through the town would be as a result of significant commercial or domestic demand.
It’s believed that works to bring the pipeline to the town will start this autumn, in tandem with a major revamp of Ballymahon town centre planned by the local authority.
It’s estimated that the works will cost close to €750,000 to complete in order to make the pipeline fully functional.
