Gardai reveal significant drop in incidents of shoplifting in Longford town

Gardai in Longford are reporting a 22 percent drop in the number of shoplifting offenses in the town over the last number of months.

Superintendent Jim Delaney told the latest meeting of the Longford Joint Policing Committee that a new initiative between the chamber of commerce and Gardai had seen a significant reduction in crime levels.

The meeting was also told the crime rate at present in the Longford Garda Division is below the three-year average and the national average.
