Funeral of ‘great leader’ Edward McGoey to take place later

The funeral of a man who has been described as a ‘great leader’ of Longford tourism takes place this morning.

Edward ‘Teddy’ McGoey, who established the Rustic Inn in Abbeyshrule, passed away over the weekend.

The businessman and entrepreneur was widely known throughout the Shannonside region, and was regarded as one of the fore bearers of the Longford tourism industry.


He will be laid to rest following 12 noon funeral mass in Abbeyshrule later today and speaking to Shannonside FM, Carrickedmond councillor Mick Cahill described him as truly unique :
