Fine Gael to finalise General Election candidates for Longford-Westmeath tonight

Despite no election taking place this side of Christmas, Fine Gael will be finalizing their candidates for one constituency in the Shannonside region tonight whenever the country decides does go to the polls.

The party is hosting a convention in Mullingar tonight to finalize who voters can expect to see from the party on their ballot papers in the Longford-Westmeath constituency.

Councillor Micheal Carrigy has already been chosen as the party’s candidate in Longford, and Deputy Peter Burke has indicated he will also be defending his current seat in the Dail.

Senator Gabrielle Mcfadden is understood to be also seeking a place on the ticket with proceedings getting underway after 8 pm in the Mullingar Park Hotel.
