Michael Connellan will not be replacing Joe Flaherty on Longford County Council after a meeting to rubber-stamp his co-option to the local authority was adjourned unexpectedly this afternoon.
On Monday it was confirmed that the well-known solicitor would take the seat occupied by the newly elected TD having been selected by the party HQ through an interview process earlier this month.
However, according to the leader of the Fianna Fáil group on Longford County Council, Séamus Butler, the council executive decided there was a question over Mr. Connellan’s eligibility for the role due to his current employment status with Tusla.
Legal advice was subsequently sought from the Department and the meeting was ultimately adjourned after a 30-minute recess to try and resolve the matter proved unsuccessful.
