Fianna Fail has confirmed that it will select its Longford candidate for the next General Election in September.
The party has contacted all members by letter today to confirm that the deadline for nominations to go forward at the convention is 5pm on July 31st with the convention taking place on September 1st.
Joe Flaherty and Councillor Seamus Butler have confirmed to Shannonside FM today that they will put their name forward at the convention.
Pat O’Rourke, who was a candidate at the party’s previous convention has revealed to Shannonside FM that he will not be putting his name forward for the convention.
However, he is wishing whoever participates in the convention the best of luck.
Former candidate Connie Gerety – Quinn told Shannonside FM that she would not be able to comment on the convention until she has seen today’s letter from the party.
The convention, which is likely to take place in the Longford Arms hotel, follows on from Fine Gael’s successful convention last month where Ballinalee councillor Micheal Carrigy was selected as the party’s Longford candidate in the next race for the Dail.
