Families of Defence Forces’ members to “parade” outside constituency offices of OPW Minister

A “parade” aimed at highlighting recruitment and staffing issues in the Defence Forces is due will take place outside the constituency office of several Government TDs tomorrow, including those of OPW Minister Kevin Boxer Moran in Ballymahon and Athlone.

Concerns have been raised by family members of Defence Forces personnel and retired members that there is a feeling of a lack of support and co-ordination of facilities and services for men and women in uniform, including mental health awareness initiatives.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning retired Sgt major Noel O’Callaghan claimed that 53 personnel every month this year have left the Defense Forces and 18 air Corp technicians have applied for discharge.

A previous parade took place in Dublin in mid -September to highlight similar issues and Noel explained to the Joe Finnegan show why they are taking to the streets again:
