Over €60,000 allocated to tackle illegal dumping in local communities

Over €60,000 has been allotted to tackle illegal dumping in the Shannonside region so far this year.

Roscommon and Leitrim received the most amount of money in the region from under a new grants scheme announced by Minister for the Environment Denis Naughten.

€22,756 is to be provided for 13 different ‘Adopt a road/bring bank Groups’ in Leitrim including the Corneen Bog area of Mohill as well as the Hartley Area of Carrick On Shannon and The Mill Race River in Drumshanbo with some money also diverted to a media and on-line anti-dumping campaign

Roscommon has also received just over twenty-two-thousand euro in funding to pay for clean ups in five areas such as The Oaks, Frenchpark, and Scramogue with money also to be used for the installation of CCTV and signage.

Longford received funding of 20,000 euro to tackle one problem area identified in the town.

The money is being directed an anti dumping initiative in the Arnacassa area with money also being diverted to CCTV and the installation of lighting.
