Over €19,000 has been collected in just over a week as part of efforts to save Longford Greyhound stadium.
A meeting last week at the track, which is due to close at the end of this month, heard that a sum of €25,000 would be needed in order carry out urgent fire safety works and to keep racing going until October.
A fundraising committee had urged the general public to provide any money they could to save the historic track with a go fund me page established online in order to aid the collection efforts.
In a Facebook post last night from the track, it claimed that over €19,000 of the €25,000 target had been obtained in part through the go-fund-me, donations at the track and bank transfers
They claim that they need to keep the momentum going now ahead of a key deadline next Monday August 27th.
The track was due to close this Friday August 23rd.
