Dublin man robbed Longford Post Office to pay off drug debt

A Dublin man has told a court that he robbed a Longford Post Office in order to pay off a small drug debt.

Alan Coyne, with an address of Ballinaree Cottage, Edgeworthstown, appeared at Mullingar district Court this morning, following the incident in the historic village on Wednesday afternoon.

The court heard that the former drug addict had entered the post office at around 2.40pm with a blade, and stolen €13,000.

He then took a car from outside the Post office but crashed the vehicle a short while later.

He was remanded in custody by Judge Seamus Hughes to appear again at Longford District Court next Tuesday.
