Deal between Longford pet food company and beef protesters has fallen through

A deal that was expected to be reached between protesters and managers at C&D this afternoon has fallen through.

A gas truck that was blocked from leaving the premises this morning was being negotiated for release in what protesters called “an act of goodwill”.

Protesters agreed to allow the truck to leave providing C&D agreed in writing that no other trucks would go in or out.

TD Martin Kenny visited the picket-line this afternoon and said that although management initially agreed to this, talks broke down and farmers claim C&D “broke their word”.

Deputy Kenny says farmers have come too far to back down now.
