Construction to begin in April on €5m Lanesboro distillery

Work is expected to begin on the planned Lough Ree Distillery in Lanesboro next April and it’s hoped the project would be finished by next Christmas.

Planning permission was granted to the Clancy Family for the development early this year and they intend to build a traditional distillery on the site of the old post office in the Shannonside town.

It’s hoped the venture could create 25 jobs over the next few years and attract visitors to the town with a visitors centre exhibition and retail area.

The project is estimated to cost €5 million and the company has announced an Employment and Investment Incentive Scheme to raise some of the necessary funds.

Chief executive Peter Clancy says there’s been a huge amount of preparatory work to be done since getting planning permission at the beginning of this year but they are ready now to move to the next phase.
