Concern has been raised that hundreds of people may have been fraudulently added to the voting register for the local elections in Longford.
Yesterday’s meeting of Longford County Council heard that a very significant number of people were added to the supplementary register on Tuesday, the deadline day.
Several councillors are concerned many of those aren’t legitimate, while director of services Barbara Heslin says the council is currently verifying them.
Fianna Fáil councillor Seamus Butler claims the register in Longford town especially is grossly inaccurate.
Independent councillor Mae Sexton is also concerned.
