Plans to improve the Ballinalee road into Longford town are welcome, but more thought needs to go into the provision of a cycle lane and the removal of mature trees on the route.
That’s according to Independent councillor Mae Sexton who was commenting in the wake of the publication of Part 8 planning for the road by Longford council this week.
As part of the plans the surface of the road will be improved, and a new cycle and footpath will be provided.
Overhead power lines will be undergrounded, and new street lighting, road signage and markings will be installed.
The plans will also involve the removal of some mature trees along the frontage of College Park.
Councillor Sexton says she welcomes any improvements, but she feels issues like the cycle path and removal of mature trees need more consideration.
