Calls for ESB to fully explain decision to close Lough Ree Power Station

The ESB is being called on to fully explain the reason for not trying to convert the Lough Ree power station into biomass.

The company confirmed on Friday morning that it will shut both the Lanesboro power station and its sister pant in Shannonbridge next year.

The ESB claims that a failure to secure a biomass licence for the plant in Offaly in July of this year, meant that it could not sustain operations at both midlands power stations after 2020.
