Call for overhaul of inspections of asylum centres

The Irish Immigrant Support Centre has called for an overhaul of the inspection process for direct-provision centres after the latest report of a Longford facility.

The Reception and Integration Agency identified a small number of issues in the Richmond Court Accommodation Centre, which has 77 residents.

While several maintenance problems were found, other aspects of care were praised, such as food quality and cleanliness.

But Jennifer DeWan, Nasc Ireland’s campaigns and communications manager, says the inspection is very limited and should be extended.
