Unions representing workers at Bord na Mona and ESB say the recent Just Transition report shows the companies and Bord na Mona need to “stop promising and start delivering.”
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions Energy Sector Group which is made up of all unions in the Irish Energy Sector says the report sets out the clear and urgent need for Bord na Mona to accelerate job creation and to address the “inadequate funding” for the transition.
SIPTU official Willie Noone who’s Chair of the Bord na Mona Group of Unions says workers on the ground need to be told in clear terms where they stand, and what new job opportunities might be available.
The trade union official also says that peat harvesting could have been taking place since last month when An Bord Pleanala ruled it could go ahead.
He says while there are indications that peat harvesting might happen next week , it’s another example of where Bord na Mona has been very slow to act.
