It’s the end of an era for a Longford institution with bingo numbers being called for the final time tonight at Temperance Hall in the town.
Last week, players were told that the St Vincent de Paul were not running the game anymore due to falling numbers.
Thousands of people have enjoyed bingo at the hall over the last number of decades, as it became a firm fixture in the weekly bingo schedule for many players.
President of the Longford Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, Oliver Keegan, says they were reluctant to end the weekly sessions.
But he said falling revenue over the past six months meant that the organisation couldn’t continue to keep losing money.
