Ballymahon traders demand prompt delivery of gas pipeline

The head of Ballymahon’s Traders’ Association is hopeful there will be no delay to the development of a gas pipeline from Athlone to the south Longford town.

Minister for the Environment Denis Naughten confirmed on Saturday afternoon that a deal has been agreed with Gas Networks Ireland to supply gas to the Center Parcs project in Newcastle Wood at a cost of just over €5 million.

Longford Forest is due to open in the summer of 2019.

According to Peter Dennehy, the company has already invested significant funds in developing special attractions for their swimming pool area, which would require gas heating a number of months before it’s projected opening date

The Ballymahon businessman believes it’s vital everything runs smoothly in the coming months.
