Irish Water says it will be early next week at the earliest before a ‘boil water’ notice for more than 8,000 customers in Ballymahon and surrounding areas is lifted.
The company says it took the action this afternoon, which affects all those using the Ballymahon Public Water Supply, after advice received from the Health Service Executive.
In total, 8,247 customers are affected around Ballymahon and other parts using this supply, including people living in Edgeworthstown, Legan, Abbeyshrule and Moydow.
Irish Water says the notice has been put it place as ‘a precautionary measure’ after a failure in the treatment process at the Abbeyshrule Water Treatment Plant.
John O’Donoghue, Irish Water’s regional operations manager, said testing will be ongoing on the water supply all weekend until it is clear.
He explains to our reporter Bernie O’Toole what will happen over the coming days and that it will be Tuesday at the very earliest before the notice is lifted.
