An appeal has been brought to An Bord Pleanála against a telecommunications mast planned for Co Longford.
A rival networks operator opposes the development.
Last month Longford County Council granted planning permission, subject to eight conditions, for a 36-metre multiuser telecommunications support structure at Drumbaun, Ardagh.
The application was lodged by Cignal, which focuses primarily on the development and management of tower sites and fibre infrastructure.
Letters supporting the application were lodged by eir and Imagine, who indicated they’d be interested in availing of the mast.
But Hibernian Cellular Networks has appealed against it to the planning appeals board.
In its objection to the council, it said that it had its own tower at Garrycam, Ardagh Hill, which has sufficient capacity for additional operators.
The Wicklow-based company told the local authority there was no reason for another tower in the area.
Hibernian described the indications of support from eir and Imagine as ‘noncommittal’ and ‘purely speculative’.
An Bord Pleanála is due to make a decision on the appeal in four months’ time.
