Almost 6,000 people on live register across Roscommon, Longford and Leitrim

Almost six thousand people in the Shannonside region are on the live register.

That’s according to the latest data from the Centra Statistics Office, and shows a slight increase of twenty four people compared to December’s statistics of five thousand nine hundred and fifty nine.


According to the latest CSO figures, one thousand six hundred and ten people were on social welfare in Co. Leitrim this month, with one thousand two hundred and twenty five of them in Carrick-on-Shannon.

There was a significant drop of approximately two hundred people between January 2020 and January 2019, when one thousand eight hundred and four people were on the register.

Two thousand three hundred and forty three people were in Co. Longford, which is a slight rise of ten people since December, and a decrease of over two hundred since January 2019.

Co. Roscommon saw two thousand and thirty people on the live register in January, which is a small improvement from December, when four extra people were on the register.

The bulk of people on social welfare in the region are in the Castlerea area, with Roscommon Town just after with six hundred and twenty five people.
