The current structure of local government funding needs to be dismantled, according to a Longford councillor.
Cllr Joe Flaherty made the comments at a meeting of Longford County Council this week, where councillors approved a 2020 budget of €48million.
Despite the record-breaking budget – which is reportedly the highest in the history of the county – Cllr Flaherty noted that the people of Longford are funding almost half of it through tax.
According to the councillor, there is a need to go back to the drawing board.
