21 patients stranded on trolleys in Mullingar hospital

Staff at hospitals in the Shannonside region remain under pressure this afternoon, with dozens of people on trolleys or chairs awaiting admission to emergency departments.

There has been a slight rise in the number of people awaiting admission at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar since yesterday, with 21 people today at the hospital seeking treatment, up from 16 recorded by the INMO yesterday.

Nineteen people are seeking medical treatment at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore, while there is also overcrowding being reported at Sligo University Hospital, where 26 people are on trolleys or chairs.


The situation it at its worst in this region in Galway University Hospital, where 31 people are currently awaiting for an admission at its emergency department.
