Young Leitrim Traveller children sell artworks to raise over €400 for homeless charity

Children from the Traveller Community have got into the Christmas spirit by helping raise over four-hundred euro for a local homeless charity.

Twenty-six children, aged between 6 and 12, from the Shannonside Community Childcare Centre after-school group, had been working with Leitrim-based artist Kate Murtagh Sheridan in the last number of months on a special Creative Ireland art project.

As well as visiting the Dock and meeting other artists, the children designed and made pieces from found materials to sell at the winter market in Carrick-on-Shannon last weekend.

All the pieces were sold with over €400 raised for the North West Simon Community.

Kate Murtagh Sheridan says it was a wonderful gesture from the children.
