Work under way on €2m Carrick school

Construction work on a new €2-million primary school in Carrick-on-Shannon has begun.

Last year, the Department of Education got planning permission to build a new school building for Gaelscoil Liatroma at the Castlecarra Road.

Galway firm JJ Rhatigan & Co has now started work on the development, which will include 12 classrooms, a general-purpose hall and sports and leisure facilities.

The project is part of the department’s Rapid Building School Programme and is likely to take nine months to complete.

The Gaelscoil is currently based nearby at Attifinlay, where almost 150 children are enrolled.

Enda Stenson is a local Independent councillor in the area.
