Work on the multi-million euro redevelopment of Carrick-on-Shannon town centre is to begin in in earnest in the next fortnight.
Contractors have begun site works in the last few days at the Flynn's Field site where 125 off-street car parking places are to be developed, and that project is expected to be finished by the end of September this year.
Work is also due to begin today on the replacement of a boardwalk along the Shannon from near the council offices running towards the cruiser hire companies.
The enhancement of Main Street and St George's Terrace wasn't originally due to begin until this autumn, but work is now starting there on the 15th of June to take advantage of the lack of traffic.
Shay O' Connor, senior engineer with Leitrim Council says the works might take a bit longer because of social distancing practices, but it also means the town will be ready to put its best foot forward when business returns to normal.
