Woman taken to hospital following accident at Cartown yesterday

A woman is being treated at Sligo hospital following a road traffic accident in Co Leitrim yesterday evening.

Motorists are being advised that the Leitrim road , R280, is still closed half a mile outside Carrick-on-Shannon outside Cartown following the accident.

The accident happened around six o’ clock yesterday evening and involved a collision between a motorbike and a truck.


The female motorcyclist was taken to Sligo hospital with head injuries.

There are diversions in place for those travelling to and from Leitrim village.

Traffic coming from Leitrim will be diverted via Kiltoghert Creamery.

HGV’s will be asked to use the Drumsna exit only.

All other vehicles will be asked to travel into Carrick via the Castlecara road.

Traffic travelling to Leitrim will also be asked to use the Castlecara road, and again HGV’s will use the Drumsna exit.

Traffic in the Hartley area will be local access only.
