There has been a warm welcome to the development of almost fifty new beds at Sligo University Hospital.
This morning it was confimed that the facility, which services the entire north-west as well as parts of Cavan and Donegal has received planning permission for a 46 new single room extension.
The project will involve the construction of two 23 bedroom wards connecting to the existing hospital at level 3 and 4.
The extension will also provide extra space at level 5 and 6 and there’ll be additional car parking spaces with a multi-storey car park area.
The hospital’s general manager, Grainne McCann, says that hospital occupancy rates which have been consistently high over recent years need to be addressed.
Rhatigan Architects were responsible for the development design which received approval.
