Members of the public are being asked to consider donating some of their time to a new project which would give older people the opportunity to get out of nursing homes.
The project has come about after an application was made to the Healthy Ireland programme by the Sports Partnership at Leitrim council and the HSE.
Two special triobikes have been bought with funding from the programme and volunteers are now needed to use the bikes to bring older people out for some fresh air and social activity.
Triobikes are electrically assisted bicycles with specially designed seating for two people on the front.
One will be based at St Patricks in Carrick-on-Shannon, to be shared between Arus Carolan in Mohill and Ballinamore nursing unit.
Project co-coordinator Anna Mc Tiernan explains the idea is for a volunteer to bring out some older people on the bike on agreed routes around the local towns.
