Van seized in Leitrim after motorist tries to come to aid of truck-driver colleague

A van was seized by Gardai in south Leitrim yesterday afternoon after a truck was stopped for not having its wheel nuts secured properly.

Gardaí from the Roads Policing Unit in Leitrim were conducting a number of checkpoints along with vehicle Inspectors from the Road Safety Authority, Customs Officers and Social Welfare Inspectors.

A truck was initially stopped for having an issue with its wheel nuts and when a colleague of the truck driver arrived at the scene, gardaí discovered that the driver of the second vehicle was at the scene with no valid tax or insurance on their vehicle.

The vehicle was subsequently seized and the driver is expected to to hit with a fixed notice penalty or possible court appearance.
