There’s widespread welcome for the news that two walking trails that pass through the Shannonside region have been officially included on the National Walks Scheme.
The Hymany Way and the Leitrim Way take in parts of Roscommon as well as Leitrim along their routes.
The trails are being added as part of an expansions which will see the Walks Scheme nationally doubling in size to 80 trails when all phases are finished.
The inclusion of the two walks in the Shannonside region will mean that farmers will get a payment for maintaining the marked walks.
The development will also include the appointment of an additional Rural Recreation Officer in Leitrim to assist in delivering the scheme.
