Thirty-one new garda speed camera safety zones in the Shannonside region will come into effect this month.
It’s part of a total nine hundred and three new zones nationwide.
Twenty three zones are already in the Shannonside region, with that number expected to rise to fifty one with the addition of fourteen in Roscommon, eight in Leitrim and nine in Longford.
Eleven kilometres of the N4 Longford to Tomiskey road was identified a hotspot, with four fatal and six minor collisions.
According to Gardai, safety cameras are proven life savers.
One point five million speeding tickets have reportedly been issued since their introduction.
The cameras operate in areas where there’s a history of speed-related collisions, and the new ones will begin operating from Monday 17th of February at 6am.
