Tesco has called on the Mandate trade union to call off a threatened one day strike at its’ Carrick-on-Shannon store.
The supermarket giant made the call after the union announced a strike will take place on Saturday 22nd December in a row over contracts and working hours.
The action which centres on dissatisfaction over lack of full-time contracts and hours being offered to staff.
The union claims it has tried to engage with Tesco management on the issues but there has been no communication on any level for at least a year and a half.
However this evening Tesco issued a statement in which it urged the union to call off the one day strike which it branded “unwarranted.”
The company says the planned action will be in breach of agreed procedures which are to refer disputes to the Workplace Relations Commission.
Tesco added that it will keep the store open on the day and says it regrets that Mandate is inflicting this inconvenience on customers when the store is at its’ busiest.
