Sligo/Leitrim Gardaí advise parents not to put children’s names on school bags

Gardai in the Shannonside region have advised parents not to mark their children’s schoolbags with their names ahead of the return to classrooms next week.

In a message on the Sligo/Leitrim Garda Facebook page, officers are advising parents that in order to keep their children safe, it would be advisable not to have any personalisation added with names visible.

The post goes on to claim that a child may assume that a stranger who approaches them and knows their name and this may put the child in an uncomfortable position.

They state that personalised pencil cases and books are all fine as they won’t be seen when the child is travelling to and from school.
