Sligo I.T received eight complaints over student behaviour last year

New documents show a Garda investigation began last year about a complaint that one Sligo Institute of Technology student allegedly assaulted another.

Details released to Shannonside FM also show that, in 2016, two staff members complained that they had been sent ‘inappropriate emails’ by students.

Sligo IT, which is used by many north Roscommon and south Leitrim students, received a total of eight complaints about student behaviour last year.

On August 18th, a staff member claimed that a student sent an ‘inappropriate email’ to the IT’s president, human resources department and others.

The complaint was upheld, but the student had left the institute.

A similar complaint was received on September 29th when a staff member also claimed a student sent inappropriate emails.

Sligo IT told Shannonside FM the complaint was suspended as the student had left the institute.

On October 30th, the IT received a complaint from a student of an alleged assault by another student.

The institute told Shannonside FM that the alleged incident didn’t happen on campus and was dealt with by the gardaí.

It adds that there were no serious injuries sustained.

Meanwhile, the previous month, a student received a written warning after another pupil claimed that they sent an inappropriate photo on WhatsApp.
