Sligo to get regional hub status in 2040 plan

Roscommon Senator Frank Feighan says he’s confident that Sligo will be designated as a centre of growth of the northwest in the government’s National Planning Framework.

The Fine Gael Senator was commenting after reports that lobbying from Rural Affairs Minister Sean Kyne and other politicians has led to a rethink for the framework plan.

Senator Feighan says he’s happy that Sligo will receive the status it’s due when the revised plan is published early in the new year.

There has also been serious disappointment expressed since the publication of the draft development that the town of Athlone wasn’t designated for growth either, but Chamber of Commerce president John McGrath says they have also been working behind the scenes and are also hoping for positive news.
