Sligo consultant says fight against Covid-19 needs to echo TB campaign

One of the region’s most senior health professionals believes Ireland will require a similar response to how it eradicated TB when it comes to the long term war on Covid-19.

Senior consultant in emergency medicine at Sligo Hospital Fergal Hickey claims the country will need to see much more investment in physical infrastructure within hospitals and healthcare settings in the coming years to battle the contagious virus.

Hospitals across the region have developed Covid and non-Covid units to deal with patients who present with a variety of illnesses.

Dr Hickey feels Ireland neds to look at how it helped defeat Tuberculosis in the 1940s as a way to eradicate Coronavirus.
