Slight increases in live register in Roscommon and Leitrim as thousands receive pandemic supports

Leitrim and Roscommon both recorded a slight increase in the number of people claiming regular unemployment benefit last month.

According to figures from the CSO, Leitrim recorded an increase of sixty four in the number of people claiming
the regular unemployment benefit between March and April.

In Roscommon, the county towns with Intreo offices showered marked differences in their April figures.

In the county town, the numbers on the live register dropped by thirty two, but in Castlerea, the figures jumped from 966 to 1,000

Boyle’s figures also increased by twenty, with the county’s total unemployment figure for April increasing by twenty two to 2,182.

In Longford, the unemployment figure for April dropped by a total of twelve on figures for March.

Athlone also recorded a drop in its total unemployment figure – with Mullingar’s increasing by 67.

The number of people receiving the special Covid-19 unemployment payment has also decreased slightly in the last week.

New figures from the Department of Social Protection reveal that 4,000 people in Leitrim, and 6,900 in Roscommon both got payments this week – down 100 people in each county on figures from last week.

Longford’s total of 4,500 remains unchanged.
